George Aston Puts Pitt Decal on PSU Helmet of Collegiate Bowl Teammate

One of the traditions of college football all-star games is the trading of helmet decals, with players sometimes sporting the logos of many schools for the game. The presence of players from both sides of college football’s most intense rivalries has sometimes made for interesting dilemmas when it comes to include or not include a certain decal on game day.

Michigan’s Morgan Trent once caught some flack for sported a Texas Longhorns decal, but positioned it horns down.

It seems that Pitt fullback George Aston has embraced that part of the tradition. Aston, who is playing in Saturday’s NFLPA Collegiate Bowl at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, posted a video on Twitter on Thursday morning that showed the helmet of one of his teammates from Penn State, carefully adorned with a golden script Pitt decal, positioned perfectly on the side of the helmet where the Panthers wear it.

Two Penn State players — linebacker Koa Farmer and safety Nick Scott — are playing in the Collegiate Bowl, and all three are on the National Team, coached by former Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Tice.

It’s not clear what Aston had to do to get his teammates to approve — or if they even approved — of his design alterations.

Of course, Aston might have to return the favor, but Penn State, without a traditional helmet decal, usually gives its players navy blue stripes to trade with players from other teams.

If Aston agreed to an even exchange, he may have pulled off a heist, as Pitt’s players are wearing their matte navy blue helmets in this year’s college all-star games, so the Lions’ stripe would blend right in.

UPDATE: Aston has responded: “No PSU stuff on my helmet.”

The Collegiate Bowl will be broadcast on FS1 and kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. EST.
