Pitt Women Fall to Syracuse; Drop Fifth Straight

Digna Strautmane scored 22 points and Syracuse used a huge third-quarter run to pull away from Pitt on the way to an 82-50 victory at Petersen Events Center on Thursday.

The teams went into the half time break separated by just six points, but the Orange used the long ball to put the game away in the third quarter.

As part of a 22-2 run, Strautmane, Tiana Mangakahia and Miranda Drummond all hit from 3-point range. The Orange were 9 of 25 (36 percent) from beyond the arc for the game. Mangakahia finished with 14 points and eight assists while Maeva Djaldi-Tabdi scored 16 points on a perfect 7 of 7 shooting. She also grabbed eight rebounds.

Senior guard Cassidy Walsh led the way for Pitt with 13 points on 5 of 10 shooting. The Panthers shot 21.4 percent from the floor in the second half, and were out-rebounded, 51-32.

Jasmine Whitney had seven points and four assists. Cara Judkins had five points and seven rebounds.

With the loss, Pitt fell to 0-4 in ACC play and 9-9 on the season. The Panthers will host Clemson on Sunday at 2 p.m. and wrap up their four-game homestand with Virginia on Thursday, Jan. 24.
