Pitt’s recruiting map doesn’t make its way out to Illinois often but it did this year.

2020 cornerback Chau Smith (Chicago, Illinois) got the news yesterday that he received his first Power 5 offer from the Panthers.

“Coach Archie Collins has been coming back and forth to my school for a bit,” said Smith. “Over the last four days we’ve really been staying in contact and said he’s been doing a lot of research on me. Then yesterday my coach told me that I’d received the offer from the University of Pittsburgh.”

”I was just so happy. First thing I did after finding out is call my mom. We were on the phone yelling and screaming because we were so happy. I found out while I was in school so I was yelling and screaming in school. I then just started to cry.”

Smith is an athlete that has the potential to play multiple positions. He’s a cornerback, safety, wide receiver and a return man on special teams.

“Coach likes my athletic ability and how I keep my eyes on the quarterback when I’m a defensive back and also how I return punts,” said  Smith.

Pitt was his first Power 5 offer but he’s receiving plenty of interest from schools. Smith says that he’s currently hearing from Texas Tech, Iowa State, Toledo, Illinois, Bowling Green, and Western Michigan.

Smith plans on making some upcoming visits as he’s been invited to Illinois State Junior Day and as far as Pitt goes.

“I’ve never been to Pittsburgh before but I would love to come down and check things out.”
