Pitt Football 2020 Recruiting Targets: Safety Semaj Brown

Over the last week, Pitt football’s recruiting has moved out to the Midwest and in particular the Chicago area. This morning, they extended an offer to 2020 3-star safety Semaj Brown Calumet City, Illinois.

Brown (6’2″, 185) is a big, physical safety that also holds offers from Kansas, Nebraska, Syracuse, Southern Mississippi, Toledo and Western Michigan. Brown also tells me that he’s hearing a lot from Wisconsin, Iowa, New Mexico and Bowling Green.

The Pitt staff, Archie Collins in particular, has been in contact with Brown for over a year now but this morning told him that he officially had an offer from Pitt.

“I had a feeling that the offer would be coming,” Brown told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “I’ve been talking to Pitt since last year and the week they were playing Notre Dame, he told me that they were looking at me and would be in touch. I was hoping the offer would be coming and thinking that they like me.”

“I’m a real physical player and keep my hands on the receiver or whomever I’m guarding. Pitt told me that they really like my size and my coverage skills, too. Coach just keeps telling me that he wants me to get down to Pitt and visit.”

Brown appreciates all the interest he’s receiving from schools but isn’t content and knows that he has more work to do in order to improve his game.

“I know that I need to work on getting a bit faster and also to work on my man press coverage. Basically I want to work on my speed and my coverage skills.”

During the last year, Brown has talked with and developed a good relationship with Collins, someone he can see himself wanting to play for in the future.

“It’s so cool and he really just keeps it real, that’s what I really like about him.”

Brown plans on making some upcoming visits and tells me that he wants to make a visit to Pitt sometime in the spring to check things out.
