Georgia cornerback Erwin Byrd won’t be making an official visit to Pitt after all.
Two days ago, Byrd received an offer from Pitt and told Pittsburgh Sports that he planned on making an official visit this coming weekend. However, that was before he began his official visit to Maryland.
This morning as first reported by Steve Wiltfong of 247 Sports, Byrd gave Maryland a verbal commitment at the conclusion of his visit.
Colorado was viewed as the leader for Byrd but he decided to play for new head coach Mike Locksley.
The offer by Pitt to Byrd seemed a bit surprising considering the lack of recruits that Pitt will be able to sign next Wednesday. In some ways, the offer seemed to be insurance in the event that Aliquippa cornerback MJ Devonshire decides not to commit to Pitt. However, that insurance plan is now gone.
Barring any last-minute recruiting surprise, it looks as though it’ll either be Devonshire or no other cornerback in this recruiting class.
