Tomorrow is shaping up to be a highly attended Pitt Football Junior Day and one of the many local recruits that plans on spending the day with the Pitt football staff is Washington lineman Chase Mitchell.
Mitchell is a big offensive lineman/defensive tackle who holds offers from Howard and William & Mary. Considering his athleticism and size, it’s only a matter of time before those offers start pouring in. Schools that have been in contact with him the most have been Michigan State, Cincinnati, Toledo, Miami of Ohio and Ohio.
“This whole recruiting experience is awesome,” said Mitchell. “I’m really just enjoying the opportunity to speak to new people and schools. Most coaches are telling me that in college I’m most likely an offensive guard or center. But considering I’m 6’5″, 335 pounds and recently ran a 5.2 so they like my athleticism and the way I move so I could play defensive line.”

Another school that’s been in contact is Pitt and this weekend, Mitchell is really looking forward to speaking and being around the coaching staff including offensive line coach Dave Borbely.
“I’m just so happy that they invited me. Pitt is a school that I’ve always been interested in. If I got the opportunity, I would love to stay close to home and play for the hometown team. The coaches have been real cool and it’s a place that I really could see myself at,” said Mitchell.
“I’ve spoken mostly with Coach Borbely and he’s a real good guy. He’s been to my school like 4-5 times and him and I communicate over Twitter sometimes. He checks up on me, how school is going and like I said, he’s a real awesome guy.”
Aside from checking up on him, Borbely has also critiqued Mitchell’s game tape and given him some things that he’d like to see him work on this year.

“He really wants me to be more aggressive,” said Mitchell. “When he tells me that he wants me to be more aggressive and explosive, I appreciate him saying that and I absorb that and will work on that so that I can be the best player that I can be.”
It goes without saying that if it gets to that point, an offer from Pitt would mean a lot to the big Washington lineman.
“It would mean everything to me,” said Mitchell. “Pitt is someplace I always dreamed about attending. This weekend, I’m just looking forward to seeing the facilities, seeing the atmosphere at the basketball game and really hearing how the coaching staff feels about me.
