Aliquippa’s MJ Devonshire Commits to Kentucky

Published

It’s been tough sledding for Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi and the Panthers when it comes to recruiting in the WPIAL for 2019.

Pitt signed 18 players in the early signing period back in December, but just one of them — Aliquippa wide receiver Will Gipson — came from the region.

Narduzzi and company spent most of the last month attempting to woo one more player from the state-champion Quips to Oakland, as the Panthers made four-star Aliquippa cornerback MJ Devonshire their top target coming out of the early signing period and into February’s national signing day.

Those efforts came to a head on Wednesday morning, when Devonshire made his decision at Aliquippa High School exclusively on Pittsburgh Sports Live.

Devonshire picked Kentucky over Pitt and West Virginia, meaning his high school teammate will be the only WPIAL alum to Don Pitt’s blue and gold for the first time this fall.

Narduzzi threw a wet blanket on the decision by tweeting that Pitt had wrapped up its signing class before Devonshire’s scheduled announcement.

Terrence, I don’t think PN can’t recruit, I don’t think he’s a good coach. This will be his last season. Not because of MJ but just in general. He just doesn’t got it. Whatever “it” is, he doesn’t have it. Last year.

i agree with that too as long as he’s the coach we will be a 6-6 program ,but you cant lose a 4 star kid to Kentucky when he’s in your backyard ,ohio st or other big time programs i can see but kentucky come on

Lets not act like we Lost MJ to community college here. Kentucky is an SEC program that is fresh off a 10 win season including a bowl victory over PSU. Regardless I have to believe that this came down to the quickest path to playing time for MJ. I am not an expert when it comes to Kentucky football but I believe from what I have read that both of their starting CBs their starting SS, and their starting FS were all seniors last year.

Temperature of Narduzzi’s seat is getting significantly hotter by the day.

Seems like a dick move for Narduzzi to Tweet that out before the kid can go public. Then again, its not like doing it will hurt him with local kids.
