Pitt had a ton of recruiting targets visiting over the weekend, but the biggest name was unquestionably 2019 La Lumiere wing Gerald Drumgoole.
How did the visit go?
Now that he’s had a day to think about it, Drumgoole talked to Pittsburgh Sports Now about the weekend, what he liked and what his timeline is for making a decision.
“I definitely loved the official visit,” said Drumgoole. “I loved how the coaches were family first and the coaches and entire team were already treating me like brothers. I went there and it definitely felt like home.”
Over the last few months, Drumgoole has spent plenty of time talking with and messaging with the Pitt coaches, but this was his first extended stay in Pittsburgh and around the program. Did anything surprise him about the weekend?
“Yes, I was surprised by how many people knew me already,” Drumgoole said. “That was a very cool feeling. It was fans in the Oakland Zoo and all around campus. I enjoyed that and hearing people all around telling me that they wanted me to commit to Pitt. That was a very great experience.”
On the subject of committing, Jeff Capel and his assistants obviously want to get a commitment from Drumgoole, but they didn’t press him on it. However, he left his visit knowing what a priority he is and Capel’s vision of the player that he can become at Pitt.
“Our conversations went well. He brought up how much I can impact the team and what my role would be,” said Drumgoole. “He also told me how much he enjoys watching me play. He sees a bright future ahead of me and saw ways that I would fit it on the offense and in areas they need help. Coach said they need someone that can rebound and a tough guard that can put the ball in the basket from the perimeter and around the rim. It was just a good conversation overall and it was a good feeling.
Now the answer that Pitt fans want to hear: When will Drumgoole make a decision?
“I won’t be taking anymore visits and I’ll decide between South Carolina, Pitt and Minnesota. I’ll be deciding in the next couple of days.”
