The Athletic’s college basketball insider Andrew Slater broke the news that Scotland Campus Sports center Karim Coulibaly has given Pitt a verbal commitment.
Coulibaly (6-foot-9, 235 pounds) is rated as a 4-star recruit by ESPN and a 3-star by Rivals and 247 Sports. He joins Gerald Drumgoole as the first two members of Pitt’s Class of 2019.
Both Jeff Capel and Milan Brown were lead recruiters on Coulibaly. The left-hander was in town two weeks ago on an unofficial visit which really sold him on Pitt. Coulibaly gives Capel a much-needed inside presence that can defend and hit the boards. Offensively, he uses an effective hook shot, as well as a medium range-game and from time to time can hit the three.
Because he has the ability to play either the four or five, look for Pitt to still try and get another big man in this class. That could be 7-foot center Ibrahima Diallo, who is visiting Pitt this weekend.
The Panthers are also hosting wings Julian and Justin Champagnie, who could also commit to Pitt sooner rather than later. Pitt has at least five scholarships to work with in this class.
Best news I’ve heard all week. If they can land Diallo, its unbelievable
I’m hoping for the Juco kid too… Sy I believe.
You knew it was coming. Capel knows what he wants and won’t quit.
Any chance Samson moves on to open up a 6th?
