Junior quarterback Anthony Romphf is a player that Pitt has been recruiting for well over a year.

Next week, Romphf will travel from his home in Southfield, Michigan in order to check out the football program and the university itself.

This will be an important visit for Pitt because Romphf plans on making a college decision in the near future. This afternoon, Pittsburgh Sports Now talked with the quarterback about Pitt and his college recruitment.

One thing that excites him is that after months of communicating over the phone and the computer, he’s now able to finally see Pittsburgh and the Pitt football program in person.

“I’m excited, I want to see how the coaches treat me,” said Romphf. “You can really tell a lot by being around a person and also looking at him in the face while we’re talking.”

“I also want to see how the team runs a full practice and the atmosphere. Also, I want to see what the university is like and what the campus life style is because it’s a place that I’m going to be for the next four or five years.  Pitt likes my athleticism and my abilities to make plays as a quarterback.”

Another important aspect to next weeks visit is for Romphf to have a long conversation with new Pitt offensive coordinator Mark Whipple in order to find out about him and his vision for the offense.

Romphf chief recruiter has been Archie Collins and the two have developed a strong bond over the last year.

“Coach Archie and I have been talking for a year now and he’s been out to see me workout physically. Whenever he comes out to the school, we always talk for like 45 minutes. Since we’ve talked so much on the phone, I’ve found out we have a lot in common. He talks to me about my school, high school life-style and stuff like that.”

“Things I’m going to be looking for in my school are how quick can I possibly get on the field and play,” said Romphf. “Aside from the football angle, I need to look at if the school has what I want to major in. I want to go to dental school and be an orthodontist.”

Romphf is taking this and other visits very serious because he plans on making his college decision in the next month or two.

“I’m really narrowing things down because I’ll be committing in a month or two. The schools I’m talking to are Pitt, Minnesota, Iowa State, Indiana, Boston College, Florida Atlantic and Oklahoma State. Boston College and Oklahoma State are going to offer me soon.”

“This Saturday, I’m going to visit Minnesota. After that, the visits that I have planned in order are Minnesota, Pitt, Indiana, Iowa State.”

It appears as though this is player and a recruitment that’s worth keeping your eye on.
