A couple of interesting offers have been made by Pitt over the last few days.

Friday night, they extended an offer to Arizona 4-star quarterback Chubba Purdy. Sunday night, they offered one of the top offensive lineman in the state of California.

Jeffrey Persi (6’7″, 265) is a 3-star offensive tackle from San Juan Capistrano, California and holds a long list offers from schools such as Arizona, Arizona State, California, Colorado, Duke, Kansas State, Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Purdue, TCU, UCLA, USC, Utah, Vanderbilt, Washington and Washington State.

Last night, Pittsburgh Sports Now spoke with Persi who told us he officially received the Pitt offer from Tim Salem.

“I’m truly honored knowing that Coach Salem and Coach Borberly believe in me enough to extend the opportunity,” said Persi. “I started talking with Coach Salem in the middle of February and he’s kept me updated with Pitt and some information about the school and program.”

Persi has already made or will be making unofficial visits to Stanford, Northwestern, Oklahoma and Michigan.

What about Pitt? The obvious problem is the distance from Southern California to Pittsburgh. However, academics are very important to Persi so that’s a plus for Pitt.

“Pitt is a little ways away from me but I wouldn’t say it’s not possible to visit. I’d really like to see the campus and meet the coaches, and will be sitting down with my parents to discuss the possibility,” said Persi.

“Pitt’s already made an impact on me with their history and academic success. I’ll definitely be doing some research on them more now to see if it’s a good fit for me. The location does not bother me at all, and finding a great academic & football family fit is much more important. Finding a home of brothers and support from the staff is what I’m searching for.”
