The cryptic, all-black 4.7.19 tweets sent out by all of the Pitt athletics twitter accounts earlier this month have been explained — sort of.
Pitt announced on Monday that the athletic department will introduce its “new marks” publicly on Sunday, April 7 as part of Bigelow Bash, which will be headlined by rapper T-Pain.
The Nike reveal will happen on a state in between the Cathedral of Learning and William Pitt Student Union at 3:30 p.m.
What is being revealed isn’t laid out in print, but it’s clear this will be the long-awaited change of the colors for the athletic department from navy blue and Vegas gold to royal blue and athletic gold.
“Pitt people are passionate about their university and love showing their pride in numerous ways, especially by wearing Panthers gear and merchandise,” athletic director Heather Lyke said. “But for too long we were disjointed in our Pitt branding, whether it be our colors or logos. Now, thanks to a comprehensive study with our partner Nike, we are proud to unveil at Bigelow Bash a strong and unified visual identity. Our branding will pay homage to a proud past but with 21st century ambitions. It evokes our legends while anticipating future greatness. There is power in the Pitt brand and these colors and marks will maximize that strength for Panthers past, present and future.”
Pitt is expected to reveal new uniforms for all of the 19 sports for the 2019-20 season, as well as a new Nike Store with the Pitt Shop on Forbes Avenue.
“The opening of the Nike Store at The Pitt Shop will provide our fans with on-campus access to exclusive Pitt Athletics apparel and merchandise,” Lyke said. “Nike and the University have been terrific partners in planning this new store at The Pitt Shop and we are thrilled to have our sideline provider represented so prominently on campus.”
T-Pain, most famous for his songs I’m ’n Luv (Wit a Stripper) and Buy U a Drank (Shawty Snappin’), is scheduled to play at 5 p.m. The event is open to the public.
I heard that “I’m in Luv (wit a stripper) will be replacing the old, tired, Pitt Alma Mater.
Maybe it can be the bridge.
Pitt needs to change to Black and Gold and get uniformed with the rest of the Pittsburgh teams. Other then that, they need to pour more money into the recruiting and upgrade the tired old facilities. The old outdated non-campus facilities is a huge reason why Pitt can’t get any decent recruits to come to Pitt. Look at how many 4 and 5 star centers and power forwards that passed on Pitt. It’s not because of the coach, it’s because of the old outdated facilities on campus. Put money into upgrading facilities instead of uniforms. New uniforms won’t win a… Read more »
They don’t pay anything for the uniforms.
