Pitt’s Kene Chukwuka Undergoes Hip Surgery

Published

on

Pitt announced tonight that junior forward Kene Chukwuka underwent hip surgery on Thursday.

“Kene dealt with back and hip ailments throughout the season,” said head coach Jeff Capel. “We are hopeful the surgery will correct the issues and enable him to return to full strength.”

Chukwuka’s surgery took place at UPMC and no timetable has been announced for a return to activity.

In 32 games this season (17 starts), Chukwuka averaged 3.9 points, 3.5 rebounds per game and led the team in field goal percentage (.534). Capel used him more down the stretch in place of Terrell Brown.

It will be interesting to see when a timetable is given to when and if Chukwuka can make a return to the court. This can be a factor in how many scholarships Capel has to use for his Class of 2019.
