Exclusive: PSN Talks With 4-Star Center Khadim Sy About Pitt

The process is officially underway for talented 4-star center Khadim Sy to find his new basketball home.

Sy was putting his recruitment on the back burner until his season at Daytona State College was completed which is now the case.

What’s on tap for Sy?

Monday evening, Pittsburgh Sports Now talked on the phone exclusively with Sy who talked at length about his upcoming visits, his relationship with Jeff Capel and his timeline for making his choice.

The first thing that Sy told me is that his official visit to Pitt is set for April 11. The other two officials are Mississippi and East Carolina, which he visited over the weekend. He plans on making two more but didn’t want to identify the locations yet.

“A lot of stuff is going on with Final Four right now and coaches are changing schools and a lot of schools are still talking to me but I don’t want to publicly put them out there yet. I want to see what happens,” said Sy.

One thing that he wanted to talk about was Pitt and the relationship that’s developed over the last couple of months between him and Jeff and Jason Capel.

“I pretty much hear from them everyday. I hear from both Jeff Capel and his brother, Jason. They’ve really gotten to know me the person. I think that’s important because if you don’t know the person you won’t be able to coach them. How coach approaching me is something I really like and that’s letting me learn about him and him really making an effort to know me. We’re really vibing right now and feel like we’re in a good place. I’ve been able to have some deep conversations with him outside of basketball.”

As far as his upcoming visit, Sy tells me he’s looking forward to being around the program and talking with the coaches face-to-face as opposed to over the phone.

While some recruits set an artificial deadline for making a decision, Sy isn’t one of them. Whichever school he selects, he’ll do so when he’s 100% confident he’s making the correct choice.

“This is going to be last chance so I’m going to be very careful about my decision and am going to take as much time as I need.”

”From the coaches standpoint, if they understand where I’m coming from with that and really want me like they say, they’ll wait”
