Chris King is returning home to be in charge of the Robert Morris athletic department.

The university has announced that King has been hired as the university’s vice president and director of athletics, effective June 1. King is the current director of athletics at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, where last year he was named the NACDA Division 1-AAA Athletic Director of the Year Award. King has been at UTRGV since 2009.

King is returning home in two ways: 1) is a native of Apollo, Pennsylvania 2) is a 1994 graduate of Robert Morris University.

In a release from the school, King said, “I’m honored and humbled to serve as the next director of athletics at Robert Morris University. As an alumnus, I’m excited to have the opportunity to guide an athletic department with a championship culture and a history of success, and to be part of a team making a significant impact as part of a nationally ranked doctorial university.”

“Chris King will take RMU Athletics to the next level,” said RMU President Chris Howard. “He prizes above all else the student-athlete experience, and his achievements at UTRGV and throughout his career will bring an unparalleled level of leadership to our athletic program.”

RMU will introduce King tomorrow at a 11 AM press conference at the UMPC Events Center.
