With multiple scholarships still on the table, Jeff Capel continues to pursue a number of new players to finalize his 2019 recruiting class. He has one clear objective: land some bigs. Senior power forward / center Kene Chuckwuka’s future is questionable at the moment due to health issues and that would leave only a pair of players, true freshman Karim Coulibaly and junior center Terrell Brown, taller than 6-foot-8 inches tall.
Jeff Capel recently hosted a player that could immediately address the Panthers’ size issue, 6-foot-10-inch, 235-pound Josaphat Bilau from Spire Academy in Geneva, OH.
The native of France has been playing in the United States for two years and his athleticism and skill set have caught the attention of a number of upper major programs. Bilau completed an unofficial visit to Pitt a few weeks ago and Pittsburgh Sports Now spoke with him about his experience.
“I had a great time at Pitt. I got to sit down and have a long talk with Coach (Jeff) Capel and (Milan) Brown,” he said. “I got to see the facilities and bits of the campus. It was really nice.”
Bilau stated that he’s basically down to Pitt, WVU, Georgia and Wake Forest. He has already visited Pitt and WVU. He’s not sure when or if he will get to the others.
“I’m aware that Pitt needs big men. We talked about the roster. No doubt there’s minutes for me If I go there,” he said. “I know Xavier Johnson. We played AAU and pick up ball together in the past. He’s a great player.”
“I’m down to four schools and I’ve visited two: Pitt and WVU. I would like to make a decision within the next few weeks. I’ll try to visit Georgia and Wake Forest.”
