Pitt’s search for front court size for their 2019 roster officially added another candidate Friday morning.

Pittsburgh Sports Now was the first to report that Jeff Capel called 2019 three-star center Nigel John (6-foot-9, 260 pounds) and extended him an offer to Pitt. John (Weatherford, Texas) was previously committed to Washington State until they fired head coach Ernie Kent. Pitt has been in contact with John for the last few weeks.

“Pitt’s communication with me has been pretty recent,” John told Pittsburgh Sports Now back on May 16. “Coach Capel told me that they’ve looked at some of my film and like what he saw and that’s why he contacted me. So, we’ve stayed in touch since then.”

“I think I’m a very versatile player,” said John. “I can run the floor and I’m very fast for my size. I can play in the post and that’s something I’ve been taught how to do since day one. I haven’t been playing basketball for super long (three years) but I believe I’ve really caught on because of a lot of hard work. Along with playing in the post, I can also shoot off the dribble and shoot outside a little bit. Right now, I’m working a lot on taking shots off the dribble but I’m really comfortable playing with my back to the basketball and believe that’s my strong suit.”

Now that he officially has the offer, John says he’s working on a date to travel to Pitt for a visit.

We’ll have more with John later this morning.

We need some more big bodies, if only for practice. You don’t get much better if you’re practicing against much smaller players or guys that don’t have much talent. And this guy is a horse.
Body wise, a taller version of DeJuan Blair at 260 lbs & 6’9″. So he could make Terrell Brown work harder in practice, thereby making him a better player.
And if he’s only played bball for 3 years, he’s gonna get better. Get him on the dotted line.

Much more than a big body. Multiple power conferrence offers. Strong defender and rebounder. Strong hands and Quick feet with an array of post moves. True power forward. Would be a good get.
