It was a successful weekend for the Pitt football program as they were able to attract hundreds of players for their prospects camp on Saturday and Sunday.

A handful of recruits with offers attended along with a number of WPIAL players that the Panthers are highly interested in such as Tui Brown, Dorien Ford and Nahki Johnson.

The big news coming out of yesterday’s session is that Pitt offered a freshman that has a current tie to the program.

Elijah Statham is a defensive end from Smyrna High School in Smyrna, Delaware and is the brother of Michael Statham, a current Pitt 2019 commit.

It was a big deal for the younger Stathm because it was his first scholarship offer. Pittsburgh Sports Now had a chance to catch up with him, and he was very excited about the news.

“It doesn’t feel real, it feels like a dream,” said Statham. “I was dreaming about this moment since I was younger and the fact that it really came true is just unbelievable.”

“Coach Narduzzi was very excited when he offered me. He came up to me and said ‘you have a scholarship to Pitt.”‘Then he told my family and that’s when all the excitement and joy started to happen. My mom and dad told me that they were proud because they know how hard I work.

“I really couldn’t believe that I got my first offer on my birthday. That’s something that I’ll remember forever!”

His college days are a long way away, but Pitt has certainly made an early impression on the young defensive lineman.
