Class of 2020 Central Catholic defensive end A.J. Beatty has committed to North Carolina, he announced on his Twitter page Sunday evening.

Beatty, rated as a three-star prospect and the No. 19 player in Pennsylvania according to 247 Sports composite rating, chose the Tar Heels after narrowing his list of more than 40 offers to seven in mid-May. The other finalists were Maryland, NC State, Purdue, South Carolina, UCF and West Virginia

The 6-foot-5, 250-pound defensive end is the first WPIAL player in the Class of 2020 to commit to a Power Five school.

Beatty was on an official visit to North Carolina this weekend, the only one he’s taken so far.

Pitt was the first Power Five school to offer Beatty, but did not make his list of finalists. The local product will now spend his collegiate career as one of Pitt’s ACC Coastal Division rivals.

Guess he doesn’t want to have to attend classes, like all the other Tarholes for the last 2 decades. Blows up the theory that these kids go elsewhere because Pitt offers late as well.

Don’t know what his “handler” got for the commitment. That’s the new thing, can’t offer the family inducements but a non-family member can take a bribe. Call it what you will but it’s still a bribe.
