On Wednesday, Donovan Johnson wasn’t the only local player at the Pete.

First Love Academy guard DJ Gordon (6-foot-6, 170 pounds) and Johnson both received an invite from Pitt head coach Jeff Capel to watch the basketball team workout.

Gordon and Johnson, who are both currently in the Class of 2020, both hold offers from Pitt. The First Love star said to Pittsburgh Sports Now he’s been talking with coaches from Pitt twice a week.

”A couple days ago, coach Jason Capel and I were talking and he let me know about a team workout and he invited me over so I brought my cousin, Isaiah Wilson (First Love Point Guard) with me,” said Gordon.

Wednesday was more than watching the current Pitt Panthers workout. Gordon said it was the most extensive and meaningful talk and time he’s ever spent with Jeff Capel.

”It was really nice talking with him. He was just chilling with us, talking about his program and about things in life,” said Gordon. “It meant a lot that he came over while they were working out and him talking so much with us. I was also asking him questions like how long do you workout, during workouts what things do you emphasize, I asked a lot of questions and he was answering. Then we start talking about the NBA Draft.

“Our talks were nothing about recruiting. We were just continuing to get to know each other. That right there shows his character and type of person he is. I really enjoyed and appreciated that.”

Finally, while watching practice who on the court impressed Gordon?

”Trey McGowens and the new JUCO shooter Ryan Murphy. Those two were lighting it up.”
