Pitt Offers 2020 Safety Richard Lawson

Pitt recently made an offer that went under the radar but is a sign that they’re not just recruiting offensive lineman, tight ends and quarterbacks to fill out their remaining Class of 2020.

Richard Lawson from Carol City, Florida received an offer from Pitt earlier this week. It was a big one for Lawson since it was his first Power Five offer.

“I found out that I was being offered after receiving mail and then having a conversation with coach Charlie Partridge later on that night about what was written in one of the envelopes,” Lawson told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “After finding out that I was offered my heart skipped a beat because Pitt is a big time school. Even though I always dreamed of being offered by big time schools, it really shocked me and made me want to grind even harder knowing that these big schools are actually observing my game.

”Pitt being my first Power Five offer means alot to me. This really boosted my spirits and motivated me to want to perfect my skills and step up my game a couple more levels. Now that Pitt has offered me, their are way more eyes on me and people are starting to notice who I am.”

Lawson says that Pitt is recruiting him as a cornerback or safety.

“After coming to watch me at multiple practices during the spring and a 7-on-7 tournament at the University if Florida, they loved my length and not only my length but they loved how I can use my length to get hands on balls to create interception and pass break-ups. Overall, they just love my athleticism,” Lawson said.

College football is in the middle of a recruiting dead period where schools can’t visit recruits and they can’t travel to see schools. Once this is over at the end of July, will Lawson travel to Pittsburgh?

”When the dead period is over, Pitt is going to set a date for me to come up and visit so that I can really experience everything that Pitt has to offer me if I were to attend there campus as a student athlete,” Lawson said.
