Report: PIAA Sets Date For Donovan Johnson Hearing

Published

on

Moon basketball star Donovan Johnson’s immediate basketball future will he cleared up next week.

Chris Harlan of the Pittsburgh Tribune Review was first to report that Johnson’s appeal hearing with the PIAA will take place next Wednesday.

Johnson was ruled ineligible due to a PIAA rule that limits an athlete to six interscholastic seasons beginning with seventh grade. Because Johnson repeated a grade and played in both years, the WPIAL has ruled him ineligible for the upcoming school season.

If this ruling isn’t overturned, Johnson’s two options are 1) play his senior season at a prep school. 2) reclassify to 2019 and enroll in college.

Jeff Capel was the first coach to approach Johnson a month ago about moving to 2019. Since then, a number of other schools including Arizona have followed suit.

Although Johnson has told Pittsburgh Sports Now that he’s open-minded to both options, it’s believed that he’s strongly leaning towards attending a prep school and remaining a member of the Class of 2020.
