Jeff Capel appears intent on adding a high level point guard to his Class of 2020 as another four-star point guard just received an offer from Pitt.

Sunday night, Capel extended an offer to four-star recruit Myles Tate from Spartanburg, South Carolina. 247 Sports rates Tate as a Top 100 recruit and the No. 2 2020 prospect in South Carolina.

“I received the phone call from Coach Capel yesterday and he told me how he liked my game,” Tate told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “We’ve been talking for a while, probably since last summer, he’s been watch me and said that he wants to start building a good relationship with me. He then offered me and told me that he believes I’d be a great fit for their program.

“Coach Capel said that he likes how I can run a team and believes that would translate to the college game because he said I have good instincts, I play good defense and does all the things he wants his players to do. I feel like I’m a winner and will do whatever my teams needs for us to win. Whether that means me playing great defense, guarding the teams best player, scoring or getting my teammates involved more. I pride myself on making winning plays and do whatever it takes to win. I believe I can run a program well and me being kind of undersized (6’0″, 170), I believe my heart and effort makes up for that.”

Although he just officially received the Pitt offer last night, Tate has been in communication for nearly a year and from what he’s heard, believes Capel is a coach he can see himself playing for.

“From the conversation we’ve had, I believe that I can talk to Coach Capel anytime and I feel comfortable with him. He’s a great person and he’s a great coach as well. He knows the game of basketball, he knows how to run a program and puts tremendous trust in his players and his coaching staff. He’s just a great dude,” said Tate.

After receiving the news last night from Pitt, Tate now holds offers from South Carolina, Virginia Tech, Clemson, Butler, Ole Miss, South Florida and College of Charleston. He tells me that he has upcoming August visits scheduled to Butler and College of Charleston. Tate says that he does anticipate making an upcoming visit to Pitt too.

Being from South Carolina, Tate is familiar with a big part of the current Pitt team and that’s South Carolina native and sophomore guard Trey McGowens.

“Me and Trey we are both from South Carolina and have developed a good relationship. He’s my bro. I’m sure he’s going to try and recruit me to Pitt. I’m sure we’ll talk about the future, I’ll ask him some questions about the school, about how he does things and his experiences at Pitt.”
