Pitt Wrestling got its second Class of 2020 commit on Monday when Mick Burnett of Elyria, OH announced his intentions to attend the University. Earlier this year, Antonio Petrucelli became the first member of Keith Gavin’s third recruiting class.

Burnett wrestles for Elyria, the same high school as 125 pound starter Brendon Fenton. He was a state champion last year and is currently ranked 6th in the country by FloWrestling at 132.

“I’m humbled and extremely excited to announce that I’ll be continuing my academic and athletic career at the University of Pittsburgh. I can’t thank the people who have helped me through this exciting process enough, especially my family, coaches, and teammates.”

In addition to winning the Ohio state title last season, Mick was the runner-up the year prior (his sophomore year) and sixth as a freshman. He has finished second twice in freestyle at Fargo, once as a Cadet and again as a Junior.

He projects to 141/149. With Taleb Rahmani graduating after the 2020 campaign, Burnett’s commitment may lead to Cole Matthews (141) and Luke Kemerer (149) each bumping up a weight to allow Burnett to slot in. But we’ll see. Petrucelli and Dallas Bulsak will be there too.

“It’s like a big family there and that’s what I was looking for… I’m honored to be joining the Pitt family! H2P”
