One of the hottest recruits in the country will be making an upcoming visit to Pitt.

Pittsburgh Sports Now has learned that 2020 4-star point guard R.J. Davis plans to check out Pitt very soon. A source close to Davis, tells PSN that Davis will make an unofficial visit to Pitt on August 2, which is the end of the college basketball recruiting dead period that and the first day that prospective recruits are able to visit.

Davis has turned into one of the most sought after point guards in the Class of 2020 and made headlines this week after picking up an offer from Roy Williams and North Carolina.

The New York product now holds major offers from Pitt, North Carolina, Kansas, Texas, California, UCLA, Vanderbilt, Florida, Marquette, Northwestern, Indiana, Providence, Georgetown, Cincinnati, Seton Hall, Maryland, Illinois, St. John’s and UMass.

To this point, Davis had made two visits, an official to Georgetown and an unofficial to Marquette.

Jeff Capel and Tim O’Toole have been recruiting Davis hard now for over a year and our source says they’ve developed a strong relationship.

“Coach Capel is an authentic person who is interested in developing R.J. as a player. He likes R.J.’s leadership on the court and his demeanor. He is really high on R.J. as a person and player in that order. He has built a relationship with R.J. and is in touch with his parents as well. He is honest about the direction of the program and the need for R.J. at the point position. The university will also provide him a good education. He’s excited to learn more about Pittsburgh as a community on his unofficial visit.”

It’s not a stretch to characterize Davis as possibly Capel’s top priority in the upcoming recruiting class.
