Mike Bell has added some local flavor to his Pitt baseball coaching staff.

Bell announced on Thursday morning the hiring of John Sansone as an assistant coach and camp coordinator. Sansone is a native of New Castle and played at Neshannock in the WPIAL and under Bell at Florida State.

Sansone was a decorated player with the Seminoles earning 1st team All-ACC and 3rd team All-American honors in 2016. During his final season at Florida State, Sansone led the ACC in hits (95), doubles (26), total bases (148), while hitting a healthy .370 batting average.

Following his college career, Sansone was selected in the 8th round of the MLB Draft by the Cincinnati Reds. However, after making it to AAA (Louisville), Sansone ended his professional baseball career and is getting into coaching.

“We are extremely excited to welcome John Sansone to the Pitt Baseball family,” said Bell. “His background and familiarity with the ACC and the WPIAL will be the perfect fit as we continue to grow our program. We look forward to seeing John pass along his wisdom and experiences to our student-athletes to create more memories for this Pitt Baseball program.”
