Former Pitt Players in Action During Week 1 of the NFL Preseason

It was a full night of NFL exhibition games with 22 teams in action and a handful of former Pitt Panthers made appearances.

Here’s a recap of how some Panthers did, including some who were taking the NFL field for the first time.

Qadree Ollison, RB, Atlanta Falcons: Led the Falcons in rushing with 41 yards on 8 carries including his first NFL TD. Ollison is in a stiff battle to make it as one of Atlanta’s backup running backs.

Elijah Zeise, DE/LB, San Diego Chargers: The former Pitt linebacker is playing defensive end/linebacker with San Diego. Last night, Zeise recorded 4 tackles and played well on special teams.

George Aston, FB, Denver Broncos: Aston is trying to become a member of the Broncos backfield. Last night, Aston didn’t have a carry but had one catch for 7 yards.

Jester Weah, WR, Houston Texans: Weah had a productive debut with the Texans as he grabbed 2 catches for 29 yards. Houston has a deep wide receiver depth chart but Weah’s size (6’3”, 210) and speed is attractive for an NFL team.

Dion Lewis, RB, Tennessee Titans: Lewis obviously has a spot locked up with Tennessee and played sparingly, receiving 2 carries for 7 yards.

Tom Savage, QB, Detroit Lions: Savage is battling to be Mathew Stanford’s backup in Detroit. Last night, Savage was 2-3 for 40 yards and also had one rush for 15 yards.

Matt Flanagan & JP Holtz, TEs, Washington Redskins: This pair of former Pitt tight ends are battling against each other for a spot with the Redskins. Last night against the Browns, Flanagan recorded one catch for 15 yards and one catch for 6 yards.

Lafayette Pitts, CB, Buffalo Bills: The former Pitt and Woodland Hills star recorded one tackle in bid to make the Bills roster again.

Darrin Hall, RB, Green Packers: With his new team, Hall got 2 carries for 8 yards. Hall is doing his best to standout and impressive the Packers coaches.

Dewayne Hendrix, DE, Miami, Dolphins: A great debut for Hendrix with the Dolphins as he recorded 2 sacks, 3 tackles and forced a fumble.
