In order to turn the Pitt women’s basketball program around, head coach Lance White needs to attract better talent and obviously that’s easier said than done.
White receives some good news Sunday night from one of the top players in the Class of 2021.
Elite 2021 guard Shyanne Sellers from Aurora, Ohio released her Top 9 and it included Pitt.
Sellers is rated by ESPN as a 4-star recruit and one of the top 30 players in the Class of 2021. Last season, the first team All-Ohio player averaged 21 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists per game.
The other 8 teams that made Sellers cut were Florida State, Indiana, Louisville, Maryland, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Purdue and UCLA.
This morning, Pittsburgh Sports Now asked Sellers about why Pitt made her initial cut.
“For me, I feel like the big thing that drew me in was me feeling loved by the coaches, especially by Head Coach Lance White,” said Sellers. “Also, I know he’s looking to turn that ship around and has already made great progress.”
”The academics there are incredible and it also only being 2 hours away from home is a big factor. Not to mention the campus is beautiful. But the love from them was just incredible.”
Pitt is the only team in Sellers Top 9 that is less than 100 miles from her home in Ohio.
It’s not going to be a quick fix at Pitt but White has been able to get recent commitments from top talents Texas Tech transfer Marcella Lamark dos Santos and JUCO transfer Gabbie Green.
