Head Coach Dan Fisher continues to lead the Pitt volleyball team to unchartered territory and raise the overall profile of the program.

Following a 30 win season and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, more is expect of the Panthers this season. Today, the defending ACC champions were ranked #12 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Coaches Poll, the highest preseason ranking in program history.

This is the third time that Pitt has earned an AVCA preseason ranking (2018/#20 and 1992/#25).

“Noting the amount of talent that we return this year, it’s great to be recognized by fellow coaches,” said Fisher. “It’s a privilege for us to see these high expectations of our program. We’re looking forward to facing many of the teams on this list in both preseason and ACC play, and giving our fans something to be excited about in Pittsburgh.”

Four of Pitt’s 2019 opponents were ranked in this poll: #8 Penn State, #11 Oregon, #23 Cal Poly and #25 Louisville. Five of the Panthers opponents received votes: Cincinnati, South Carolina, Utah, Pepperdine and Florida State.

Pitt opens the 2019 home season with the Panther Challenge taking on Cleveland State, Cincinnati and South Carolina August 30-31 at Fitzgerald Field House.
