The University of Pittsburgh will honor one of the best players to ever wear a Pitt uniform on opening night.
Pitt announced on Monday that they plan on honoring the late Bill Fralic by passing out commemorative rally towels featuring his number #79.
Fralic’s family will be at Heinz Field and will take part in a special on-field presentation. It was also announced that Fralic’s brother in-in-law, Tom Brown, will be Pitt’s honorary team captain for the game.
Pitt will also be selling Fralic’s #79 jerseys in the Heinz Field merchandise shops and at the families request, a portion of all jersey sales will go to the Pitt Athletics Scholarship Fund.
”This will be our first home game since Bill’s passing and we wanted to do something special to honor his memory,” said Pat Narduzzi. “It will be an incredible sight to see all those 79 towels waving at Heinz Field. Bill is a true Pitt and Pittsburgh icon who has an unforgettable legacy as a player and person.”
Fralic was a 4-year starter, 3-time First Team All-American and the first offensive lineman to twice finish in the top 10 of the Heisman Trophy voting.
