Pitt-Ohio U. Aftermath: Penn State Week Begins

The Panthers got back on track this week with a 20-10 victory over Ohio. All in all, a much stronger effort, albeit against a weaker opponent than last week. Pitt quarterback Kenny Pickett set a career high with 26 completions for 321 yards and defensive tackle Jalen Twyman had a three sack performance. Receiver Maurice Ffrench had the team’s first 10+ catch game by a wide receiver since Tyler Boyd in 2015. As a team, the Panthers recorded six sacks and outgained the Bobcats 481 to 212.

The only real concern was the lack of finishing drives as the final score belied the domination by the Panthers on the field.

Pitt 20 – Ohio 10

It’s the start of the NFL season and it doesn’t look like any of the other major Pittsburgh publications had much to say about the game.

The Jonas Brothers’ favorite team: the Penn State Nittany Lions. PSU is coming off a 45-13 win over MAC runner-up favorite Buffalo. The Nittany Lions trailed 10-7 at halftime before putting up 28 third quarter points on their way to a blow out.

“I don’t like them one bit. That’s pretty obvious. I mean, I play for Pitt. I’m excited to play them.” — Jimmy Morrissey

Syracuse, who was ranked, will not be ranked after getting annihilated by Maryland in an embarrassing effort for a team many thought was overrated. … That may leave No. 1 Clemson as the only ranked team in the entire conference, although Virginia could sneak in after beating William & Mary. … UNC-Miami was the only interconference matchup with UNC winning a tightly contested game in Chapel Hill.
