It’s not an exaggeration to say that New York 2020 4-star point guard R.J. Davis is Pitt’s top recruiting priority in the Class of 2020.
Jeff Capel and assistant coach Tim O’Toole have recruited Davis hard for over a year and hope he’ll be the eventual replacement for Xavier Johnson at point guard next season.
Davis has been in the news a lot this week for a couple different reasons: 1) he announced his final four schools (Pitt, Marquette, Georgetown and North Carolina). 2) he’s starting to host these schools on in-home visits.
On Monday, the first school to come see Davis and his family was Capel and his staff. Pittsburgh Sports Now caught up with Davis this afternoon to get his reaction to his evening with Capel.
“Heading into the home visit with Coach Capel and the rest of the staff, I was expecting to sit down and have conversations about basketball, life, and him getting to know my family better,” said Davis.”
“When I spoke to Coach Capel and his staff, we talked about the future for Pittsburgh basketball and where he sees me as far as recruiting. I’m a priority to them. Coach Capel has done a great job with recruiting me, which I’m really appreciative for. They’ve been very respectful by allowing me to take my time in order to make the biggest decision of my life.”
Tonight, Davis will have his in-home visit with Roy Williams and North Carolina.
