PITTSBURGH — Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi said on Monday that he’s getting some pieces back for his banged up defense.
Narduzzi confirmed Monday at his press conference that cornerbacks Jason Pinnock and Damarri Mathis will both be on the field for the Panthers this Saturday against Delaware.
The cornerbacks left Pitt’s 35-34 win over UCF on Saturday with injuries. Both Pinnock and Mathis missed Pitt’s final defensive possessions, with Therran Coleman and Marquis Williams filling in.
“Banged up, but nothing bad,” Narduzzi said of his team’s health.
Pitt played 27 men on defense on Saturday against an up-tempo UCF offense. Narduzzi was pleased with the way that his reserves stepped up to the plate with a big game on the line.
“[The reserves] came in and did some stuff that you say, okay good,” Narduzzi said. “We can trust you and it makes it makes us that much stronger.”
Pitt’s cornerback trio of Dane Jackson, Pinnock, and Mathis have taken steps to the kind of group they are striving to be this season. Coleman and Williams showed that the Panthers also have much-needed depth at that cornerback position.
Did anybody question why he put Pinnock back in with only one good leg???
That is great news! Love to hear our guys are ok!!!!
Coleman should have been playing much sooner.
The big take away from the UCF game was substitution substitution and substitution.
