Popular Pittsburgh hip-hop artist, Wiz Khalifa, will perform at Pitt basketball’s Blue and Gold Madness event this Friday at the Petersen Events Center.
Both the men’s and woman’s teams have been practicing for the past two weeks and will celebrate the start of the season on Friday night.
Khalifa grew up in Pitt basketball country and most recently performed at the Panthers season kickoff event, #ZooAfterHours back in 2015.
The madness will start at 9 p.m. Friday. Admission is free. Players from both the men’s and women’s teams with be introduced, followed by a 10-minute running clock scrimmage for the women’s basketball team and a 15-minute running clock scrimmage for the men’s team.
DJ Bonics, a 2002 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, will emcee the event. Bonics has been the official DJ for Wiz Khalifa since 2010. Khalifa will cap off the festivities with a performance at the end of the night.
The Petersen Events Center has been upgraded over the summer with a new court design that fans will be able to see for the first time, as well as new video boards on the walls and over center court.
Pitt’s men’s team will start the season against Slippery Rock in an exhibition game Wednesday, Oct. 30 (7 p.m.) before opening the season at home against Florida State Wednesday, Nov. 6 (8 p.m. – ESPNU).
The women’s team will welcome the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown for an exhibition game on Friday, Nov. 1 (7:00 p.m.) before traveling for their season opener to Central Florida on Wednesday, Nov. 6 (11 a.m.).
