Pitt Visits 2020 Florida Tight End Auggie Drews

A new name could be entering the picture as Pitt looks to add a tight end to their Class of 2020.

Earlier this week, tight ends coach Tim Salem was in Florida and met with Auggie Drews (6’4”, 220) from Sarasota, Florida. At this point, Drews holds offers from Florida, Indiana and Jacksonville State.

Drews is an interesting prospect as he’s a converted wide receiver and also one of the top long-snappers in the country. During our talk yesterday with Drews, we found out he has a family tie to someone in the Pitt athletic department.

“I’ve been in contact with Coach Salem for about two weeks now,” Drews told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “I posted my offer from Florida and then a day later, Coach Harley who’s our area recruiter reached out to me and we talked for a bit and after that it’s been all Coach Salem.”

”He’s been straight forward that they need two tight ends this year and that they don’t have any commits yet. He told me that he loved my film and then came down yesterday (Tuesday) and watched our practice.”

Drews is in a wait and see mode now with Pitt as far as an offer goes but is sure hoping one comes soon.

”I think that Coach Salem likes that I was true to size as far as my measurements that were on line,” said Drews. “He liked the way I moved and seemed to be pretty happy. I think we’ll be having a conversation pretty soon. I’m also pretty sure that I’ll be heading up soon for a game.”

”I’m very interested in Pitt and can’t wait to see what they come back with. I’d really love an offer from Pitt. My dad is actually best friends with the head coach of Pitt’s baseball team do there’s a connection there. I’d really appreciate an opportunity to go there.”

Drews tells me that if he were to receive an offer, he’d then attempt to schedule a visit to Pittsburgh  for the next home game.
