Pitt’s Jaylen Twyman has been one of the most productive defensive lineman in the country and that production was recognized today was he was added to the Bednarik Award Watch List, which is awarded to college football’s defensive player of the year.

Today’s news comes on the heels of Twyman being named the Outland Trophy National Defensive Player of the Month for September. This honor was voted upon by the Football Writers Association of American.

The sophomore defensive tackle has collected six sacks and seven tackles for loss, which rank him first among all defensive lineman in the ACC. Twyman is a big reason for that the Pitt defense is ranked so high nationally: Sacks/4th, tackles for loss/15th, pass efficiency defense/11th, rushing defense/19th and total defense/21st.

The Bednarik Award semifinalists will be announced on October 29th and the three finalists will be announced on November 25th. This will culminate with the winner be unveiled on December 12th during ESPN’s College Football Awards telecast.
