Pitt Rolls By Slippery Rock 98-47 In Exhibition Game

PITTSBURGH — To tip-off the second year of the Jeff Capel era, Pitt beat Slippery Rock 98-47, on Wednesday night.

It was the Panthers only exhibition game — as they will start the regular season at home against Florida State Nov. 6 at 8pm.

Pitt’s starters were Xavier Johnson, Trey McGowens, Au’Diese Toney, Gerald Drumgoole and Eric Hamilton.

Freshmen Justin Champagnie and Abdoul Karim Coulibaly were the first two off of the bench for Capel.

Johnson led all scorers with 17 points in 21 minutes. McGowens added 15 and eight assists. Drumgoole, Ryan Murphy, and Terrell Brown all scored in double figures as well — 13, 11, and 10 respectively.

After trailing the rebound battle in the first half (24-19), Pitt out rebounded The Rock 30-14 in the second.

Curious to hear how much playing time that Curtis Aiken jr. got and how he did. Although he is non-scholarship. he is talented and has an opportunity to contribute at guard.
