Duquesne Topped By Temple, 85-72

Temple pulled away in the second half hand Duquesne its second straight loss to start the 2019-20 season.

The Owls led by just three points at the halftime break, but the chasing Dukes ran out of steam in the second half, falling 85-72.

Duquesne kept things close throughout the first three quarters, but led for 1:33 as the Owls grabbed the lead with five minutes to play in the first half and never looked back. Temple outscored Duquesne by eight points in the third quarter and then two more in the fourth quarter as the Dukes were never able to close the gap.

Forward Mia Davis was the dominant factor offensively for the Owls. She scored 26 points on 10 of 17 shooting and also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. Temple doubled up Duquesne on offensive rebounds, 10 to 5, leading to 10 second-chance points.

The Dukes used a balanced offensive attack, with four players in doubled figures, led by guard Libby Bazelak, who had 16 points and shot 4 of 7 from beyond the 3-point arc. Center Laia Sole had 14 points and seven rebounds.

Duquesne (0-2) will continue its four-game road trip with a game at Manhattan on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Dukes will travel to Iona and Lafayette next weekend before again playing in front of a Pittsburgh crowd when they visit Pitt on Nov. 23.
