Jeff Capel/Pitt Basketball Offers 2022 5-Star Guard Zion Cruz

Since becoming head coach at Pitt, Jeff Capel hasn’t shied away from going after elite high school basketball players and last night he began the process of going after another major recruit.

Tuesday night, Pitt extended an offer to 2022 5-star shooting guard Zion Cruz from Hudson Catholic High School in Jersey City, New Jersey. Currently, Cruz is rated by 247 Sports as the #22 overall sophomore prospect and the #1 sophomore in New Jersey.

Cruz (6’3″, 170) now holds offers from Syracuse, St. John’s, UCLA, UConn, Auburn and Seton Hall.

It’s interesting that Cruz is now the second sophomore with an offer from Pitt and the other player, Jaden Bradley, is also a 5-star recruit. Bradley (6’3″, 170) is a point guard from Charlotte, North Carolina and is rated as one of the top 10 sophomores in the country. Bradley holds offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Tennessee, Texas Tech, VCU, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.
