CYPRESS LAKE, Fla. — For the first time in six years, Pitt will add a new trophy to the case at Petersen Events Center.
The Panthers took down Kansas State on Monday and Northwestern on Wednesday to win the 2019 Rocket Mortgage Fort Myers Tip-Off.
It’s the Panthers first multi-game tournament championship since 2013 and a moment head coach Jeff Capel hopes can propel his team forward in its growth.
“Any time you can win a championship, it’s a big-time thing and certainly not something we take for granted,” Capel said after Pitt’s 72-59 victory over the Wildcats. “We’re appreciative of the opportunity.”
Hear more from Capel, Pitt point guard Xavier Johnson, wing Justin Champagnie and Northwestern head coach Chris Collins.
