We’re starting to find out about more and more recruits that were at Heinz Field yesterday for Pitt’s game against Boston College.

The latest player that we’ve confirmed is 2021 3-star defensive end Mattheus Carroll (6’3″, 220) from Gilman High School in Baltimore, Maryland. At this stage of his recruitment, Carroll holds offers from Maryland, Virginia and Vanderbilt.

Pittsburgh Sports Now talked with Carroll this afternoon and found out that the relationship between him and the Pitt programs seems to be just getting started but things could be heating up.

“The biggest impression I left with was just how friendly and welcoming the Pitt staff was towards me,” said Carroll. “I haven’t talked with the Pitt staff much since the spring. After my season ended, I just got back in contact with Coach Powell, my area recruiter. While there yesterday, we talked about how I’d fit in on their defensive scheme. The only thing I wasn’t able to do was get a real grasp on the university and feel for campus life because it was a gameday. But from a football standpoint, everything was good and although they lost, I like how they never gave up and played hard for the seniors, which was good to see.”

Another thing that impressed Carroll was watching Pitt’s defense and it’s attack style something that he believes he could thrive in.

“Yeah, that’s the biggest thing that I think I will bring to a team is someone that can rush off the edge and get to the passer,” Carroll told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “Talking to the coaches, they said that’s the one priority for that position, get to quarterback and pressure him. Those are things that I believe that I can bring to the table.”

Because the Panthers have really just started recruiting him, there hasn’t been an offer yet. But Carroll hopes that changes in the near future.

“The last I talked to Coach Powell, he said that he’ll be coming to see me on Monday and we’ll talk more then so that’s all I really know but judging from the temperature I think one will come but we’ll just have to wait and see.”
