Pitt Seeded Sixth in NCAA Tournament, Will Host Howard in First Round

Published

on

Pitt volleyball has been selected as the No. 6 overall seed in the 2019 NCAA Volleyball tournament and will host Howard in the first round on Dec. 6.

The Panthers finished the regular season 29-1 and perfect in ACC play. The seeding is the highest in program history.

This is the second straight year Pitt will host the opening weekend of postseason play for the second year in a row. Last year, Pitt beat Iona in straight sets before falling to Michigan in the second round.

Cincinnati and VCU will also play in Pittsburgh, with the winners meeting in the second round on Saturday. All of the matches will be played at Petersen Events Center.

If Pitt advances to the regional finals, they may need to travel on the road. Only the top four seeds are guaranteed top stay at home throughout the process. Pitt is in the same region as No. 3 Stanford, which would host the third and fourth rounds if the top seeds all advance.

Pittsburgh is also hosting the 2019 NCAA volleyball semifinals and finals at PPG Paints Arena on Dec. 19-21.

Not surprising, but it is disappointing that we weren’t a top 4 seed. We are the only team in the country who has scored more points than our opponent in every game this year. Well, here’s hoping we get to play for a title at home!

Seeding suspect on the surface but basically, Pitt will need to “show them” in order to get any respect. Hopefully, this will be a big motivator. H2P !
