A new first for the Pitt volleyball program as Kayla Lund was named the ACC Player of the Year. Lund is the first player in the history of the Pitt volleyball program to win the honor.

“In a year of so many firsts for our program, Kayla becoming our first ACC Player of the Year is a tremendous honor,” said head coach Dan Fisher. “Her leadership and work ethic set a standard for our team and it was no surprise to me that she earned the title. I am proud of her and look forward to watching her perform as we enter the NCAA Tournament Friday at home.”

The junior outside hitter wasn’t the only member of the Pitt program to be honored as six Panthers won 2019 All-ACC honors, the most in a single season since Pitt joined the league in 2013.

ACC First Team: Lund, junior right side hitter Chinaza Ndee, senior middle blocker Layne Van Buskirk. This was the second consecutive season that Van Buskirk was a unanimous first-team selection.

ACC Second Team: freshman setter Lexis Akeo, redshirt senior outside hitter Stephanie Williams and redshirt senior Hali Hillegas. Williams becomes the first Pitt volleyball player to earn All-ACC honors in each of her four seasons.

The sixth seeded Panthers will take on Howard in the first round of the 2019 NCAA Volleyball Championship on Friday at 7 PM at the Peterson Events Center.
