In the last week, Pat Narduzzi and his coaches have offered a handful of junior cornerbacks, the latest being William Simpkins III from Gaithersburg, Maryland.

Simpkins (6’2″, 170) talked to Pittsburgh Sports Now on Tuesday night about receiving the offer from Andre Powell and updated us on his recruitment.

“I really haven’t been hearing from them that much but today I was in class and got pulled out because Coach Powell was here to offer,” said Simpkins. “Although our season ended earlier than we wanted, he told me that I had a great year on the field and we talked about Pitt and asked me what I knew about them.”

Pitt is one of the first schools to get in on Simpkins as he now holds offers from Pitt, East Carolina, Virginia Tech and Virginia.

“Coach Powell also asked me if I like to play press man on defense and I said ‘Yes’ because that’s what Pitt plays 85% of the time. A lot of times, receivers don’t think they’ll be playing a player that will get up in their face on the line but that’s how I play. It doesn’t matter if it’s a 5-star receiver or a no star receiver, it doesn’t matter, that’s how I play. I play press man no matter what.”

“Location of a school doesn’t matter to me,” said Simpkins. “My important, I want a school that’s going to give me a great education. Secondly, I want a school that’s going to back me up and get me better because I want to go far in football.”

“Pitt is definitely a team that I would like to visit but I have a lot of time because I’m just a junior.”
