DETROIT — Pitt defensive tackle Jaylen Twyman is returning for his redshirt junior season, he announced on the field after Pitt’s 34-30 win over Eastern Michigan in the 2019 Quick Lane Bowl on Thursday.

Twyman, Pitt’s All-American defensive tackle, submitted his name for evaluation for the 2020 NFL Draft, but after receiving that evaluation, he chose to remain at Pitt.

“I’m guaranteed to come back 110% in 2020,” Twyman said after the game. “Let’s go Panther Nation. Here we come.”

Twyman had three tackles in the bowl win to give him 41 on the season. He also had 12 tackles for a loss and 10.5 sacks.

He will re-join a defensive line that could be one of the best in recent Pitt memory, with Keyshon Camp and Rashad Weaver returning from injuries and Patrick Jones II potentially also returning, along with Deslin Alexandre, Haba Baldonado, Tyler Bentley, Devin Danielson and John Morgan.

Pitt had two sacks on Thursday to tie with SMU and Ohio State for No. 1 in the country with 51 sacks in 13 games. Those teams will each play a 14th game and Ohio State could play a 15th.
