Pine-Richland’s Phil Jurkovec to Transfer from Notre Dame

Published

on

Former Pine-Richland quarterback and Notre Dame quarterback Phil Jurkovec has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to a report by Matt Zenitz of alabama.com.

Jurkovec played two seasons for Notre Dame, appearing in two games while redshirting in 2018 and in six games in 2019. He completed 12 of 17 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns for a career 219.1 passer rating.

An accomplished rusher, as well, the 6-foot-4, 227-pound Jurkovec also gained 130 yards on 22 carries for a 5.9 yards per carry average.

By transferring s a redshirt freshman, he will have to sit out one season due NCAA transfer rules and then will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Coming out of Pine-Richland, Jurkovec was a consensus four-star prospect and the No. 4 dual-threat quarterback in the Class of 2018. He had over a dozen high-level offers, picking Notre Dame over Alabama, Clemson, Kentucky, Michigan State, Mississippi State, North Carolina, Ohio State, Penn State, Pitt, Tennessee, UCLA, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Wisconsin.

Would pitt take him even with Yellen coming in?

Hell Yeah! He’s a stud. He can run and throw, just needs developed, like every other young QB.
He’s a big reason several top WPIAL players went to ND, and now he’s leaving, lol. Isn’t life funny!

How many of them started or were in the regular rotation?

per ESPN: The 6-foot-4, 227-pound Jurkovec appeared in only two games in 2018, so he would retain three years of eligibility even if he has to sit out the 2020 season, as per NCAA rules for non-graduate transfers.

What an ass clown. Should have gone to Pitt and become a star. Shine of the golden dome to much for the supper star.

Can’t fault a kid for choosing ND. It’s easy for us to see he may or may not get the gig, but a QB/recruit of his level has been told he’s the best his entire life.

I would take all the talent you can accumulate. The only problem is the athlete probably won’t want to come here if the position is stacked. If he wants in, take him and let the chips fall where they may. I think Yellen fits the Whipple offense better, but who knows!

If he came to Pitt, he would be transferring out right now because Narduzzi would not have done anything differently and Pickett would have been his guy through his senior year.

If Jurkovic was here Pickett would be the starter at IUP right now.

He would have redshirted here in 2018 like at ND and despite being more talented than Pickett, he would have been at best, the backup in front of Patti this past season.

The head coach is loyal to a fault and while this entire fanbase would be clamoring for Jurkovec to start in 2020, who thinks Pickett would be the backup in his senior year? Maybe Pickett gets benched in 2020 for him but it would be the same scenario at Pitt as it was at ND.

If Jalen Hurts can win the title and get benched for a freshman then anything should be on the table with Pickett’s first sign of pissing away a great defense again next fall.

IDK. Chad Voytik was initially the starter Pat’s first year but got benched for Nathan Peterman something like four games into the season. It’s a bit different because Chad wasn’t “his guy” like Pickett is, but it’s hard to imagine Pat tolerating bad QB play that wastes the kind of defense he had last year and will probably have next year.
