Former Pitt and Aliquippa defensive lineman Sean Gilbert will be the next head coach at Division II Livingstone College, the school announced on Thursday.
Gilbert had been an assistant at South Mecklenberg High School in the Charlotte, N.C. area and had been in consideration for the job at Aliquippa in 2018.
Livingstone is a historically black college in Salisbury, North Carolina, which is about halfway between Charlotte and Greensboro. There, Gilbert will replace Daryl Williams, whose entire staff was fired after a 4-6 season in 2019.
Gilbert was an All-American defensive lineman for Aliquippa in 1988 and led the Quips to a 14-1 record a WPIAL championship. He enrolled at Pitt and after redshirting in 1989 and battling injuries in 1990, emerged as a star in the 1991 season.
He entered the NFL Draft in 1992 and was the No. 3 overall selection by the Los Angeles Rams. He played 11 seasons in the NFL for the Rams, Washington Redskins, Carolina Panthers and Oakland Raiders, totaling 475 career tackles and 42.5 sacks.
