Connor Heyward Returns to Michigan State

Michigan State running back Connor Heyward will return to the Spartans despite entering his name in the transfer portal.

Pitt was one of the schools that had been interested in adding Heyward, the son of Pitt legend Craig “Ironhead” Heyward and younger brother of Steelers defensive lineman Cameron Heyward, as a graduate transfer for the 2020 season.

“It has been a long process, but I know this is home in my heart,” Connor Heyward wrote on Twitter in his announcement.

Heyward played in just four games for Michigan State in 2019 before deciding to step away from the team and enter his named into the transfer portal on Sept. 30, 2019. He was scheduled to graduate from Michigan State this spring and enroll with a new school with two seasons of eligibility remaining this summer.

In his three seasons at Michigan State, Heyward has carried 145 times for 618 yards and five touchdowns. The 6-foot, 233-pound back will be a redshirt junior this fall.
