Despite being in a bit of a tailspin, losing 3 of their last 4 games, the Robert Morris men’s basketball team still has one of their season goals within reach.
The Colonials (16-14, 12-5) will host St. Francis, PA (20-8, 13-4) Saturday after for Senior Day at the UPMC Events Center. With a win, Robert Morris will clinch top seed in the upcoming NEC postseason tournament. If St. Francis wins, RMU will be the #2 seed. Last night, Merrimack won the regular season championship but are ineligible to participate in the tournament because they’re in their first season competing in D-1.
This all means that tomorrow’s game is a winner take all for the top spot in the conference tournament. Of course, the winner of the NEC Tournament earns an automatic berth in the NCAA Men’s basketball tournament.
Although their opponent has yet been determined, we do know that Robert Morris will host their NEC quarterfinal game this coming Wednesday, March 4, at 7:00 PM at the UPMC Events Center.
Prior to the 1 PM tipoff, the Colonials will honor their 2020 senior class which includes guards Josh Williams, guards Sayveon McEwen and forward Yannis Mendy. During their season, Williams is averaging 13.2 points, McEwen 5.3 points and Mendy 8.5 points per game.
