Pitt will enter the 2020 ACC Tournament as the No. 13 seed and will face Wake Forest in the first round on Tuesday.

The Panthers and 12th-seeded Demon Deacons will tip off the tournament with a 4:30 p.m. start on Tuesday at Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Pitt, North Carolina and Wake Forest finished the season with identical 6-14 records in ACC play, with Wake Forest winning the three-way tiebreaker and Pitt prevailing over North Carolina thanks to a pair of head-to-head wins.

The Tar Heels will face No. 11 Virginia Tech in the other first-round game on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Both of the first-day games will be broadcast on ACC Network.

The winner of Pitt-Wake Forest will play No. 5 NC State in the second round on Wednesday at 2 p.m. That game will be played on ESPN.

From there, Pitt’s potential path to through the tournament would feature No. 4 Duke on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. and then a semifinal on Friday at 7 p.m. before Saturday’s title game.

Pitt lost to Wake Forest in January at Petersen Events Center after leading the Demon Deacons by 16 points in the first half.

Pitt Squanders 16-Point Lead in Loss to Wake Forest

That loss was Pitt’s fourth straight against Wake Forest. The Panthers lost at Wake Forest in overtime in 2019, at home in 2018 and at Wake Forest in 2017. Pitt’s last win over the Demon Deacons was on Feb. 16, 2016 in double overtime at Petersen Events Center.

While the Panthers have finished near the bottom of the ACC for several years in a row, they have had some success in the ACC Tournament, where they’ve won a game in three of the last four seasons. Wake Forest has won an ACC Tournament game just once since 2014.a
